NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Ten North Carolina Central University Eagles finished in the top 10 at the 2008 Christopher Newport University Holiday Open indoor track & field meet on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Newport News, Va.
In addition, all four NCCU relay squads placed in the top three, including a victory in the men's distance medley as Chris Martin, James Kukat, Brandon Jones and Jamar Jones posted a time of 11:10.30 to beat out host Christopher Newport by 16 seconds.
NCCU freshman Jamar Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the top individual finisher for the Eagles with a second-place performance in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.55.
Sophomore Charles Lindsay (Winston-Salem, N.C.) shaved two-tenths of a second off of his preliminary time to place third in the finals of the men's 55m hurdles in 7.68 seconds.
Senior Brandon Jones (Lynchburg, Va.) finished fourth in the men's mile run with a time of 4:18.77, while junior Desinia Johnson (Raleigh, N.C.) placed fifth in the women's mile run with a time of 5:27.26.
Other top 10 performers for NCCU included Brittany Brown in the women's 200m dash (5th, 26.07), Shadae Giles (6th, 58.55) and Chavaria Williams (7th) 58.70) in the women's 400m dash, Chris Hall in the men's 400m dash (7th, 51.00), Christopher Martin in the men's 55m hurdles (8th, 7.98), and Myosha Price in the women's shot put (10th, 12.01m).
In the relay events, NCCU's Giles, Tierra Blue, Williams and Ambria Alexander teamed up to place second in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.96, beating out Saint Augustine's, Savannah State and Virginia Commonwealth for the runner-up spot.
The women's distance medley, Ashley Cooke, Karol Holt, Johnson and Dreanna Wallace posted a time of 13:17.77 to finish second.
The NCCU men's 4x400m relay squad, consisting of Hall, Jeff Rankins, Lindsay and Omar Robinson, finished third with a time of 3:25.75 to edge East Carolina and Hampton for the medal position.
