BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Brittany Arvin and junior Kanishia Sheppard each posted season-highs in kills, but North Carolina Central rallied to defeat Coppin State 16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-11 in the season finale for the Eagles on Saturday in the Coppin Center.

Arvin tied her season high with 16 kills, while Sheppard added 14 for Coppin State. With the loss the Eagles ended the 2008 season with an 0-24 record.

Playing in their final matches in a Coppin State uniform, Arvin and fellow senior Lauren Lacey brought the Eagles to the brink of the first victory of the season. In addition to the 16 kills, Arvin had seven digs, five blocks and had a .448 hitting percentage. Lacey had a season-high 35 assists, five digs and two blocks.

Coppin State had season highs in kills, hitting percentage and tied the season high in blocks, but could not overcome 15 kills from Avaniki Campbell and 14 service aces from North Carolina Central.

Arvin broke a 7-7 tie in the first set with a kill, which gave the Eagles the lead for good. Her kill sparked a 5-1 run giving Coppin State a 12-8 lead.

A service ace and a kill by Shantel Moore brought NCCU to within 12-11, but back-to-back attack errors increased the CSU lead to 14-11.

Coppin State stretched the lead to 18-13 keyed by a pair of kills from Sheppard.

A Jade Dudley kill gave the Eagles a 24-16 lead and CSU won the first set on a NCCU attack error.

Three kills from Arvin helped Coppin State take an early 8-3 lead in the second set.

North Carolina Central rallied to within 8-7 and eventually tied the score at 10-10 on a kill by Nadia Hayes.

The Eagles slowly began to pull away and kills by Arvin and Dudley helped CSU increase its lead to 18-12.

Kills by Arvin and Sheppard helped up the lead to 24-19 and the Eagles closed out the second set on a NCCU attack error.

North Carolina Central jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set before Coppin State rallied to take the lead.

A service ace by Arvin capped a 7-1 run that gave Coppin State an 8-6 lead.

A service ace by Tyler Phillips and a NCCU attack error gave the Eagles a 14-9 lead.

NCCU outscored Coppin State 7-2 to tie the score at 16-16 on a service ace by Campbell.

The teams traded points until back-to-back service aces by Kristan Fields gave North Carolina Central a 21-19 lead.

The Eagles tied the score at 21-21 on a kill by Arvin and a service ace by Sheppard.

Arvin knotted the score at 23-23 with a kill, but North Carolina Central won the third set on a kill by Hayes.

With the score tied a 4-4 in the fourth set, North Carolina Central reeled off a 17-4 run to take a 21-8 lead.

The Eagles closed the gap to 10 points on two occasions, but North Carolina Central claimed the set on a kill by Campbell.

North Carolina Central took a 10-5 lead in the fifth, and deciding set, as Campbell posted four kills.

Two kills by Sheppard and a kill by Dudley helped Coppin State close the margin to 11-9.

A service ace by Phillips brought CSU to within 12-11, but a Campbell kill, a Coppin State attack error and a service ace by Ashley Shade closed out the set, and the match, for North Carolina Central.
