ATHENS, GA - The University of Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University 85-31, in Stegeman Coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs got on the board first on a lay-up by Porsha Phillips. After a couple of turnovers by the Bulldogs, Latoya Bennett scored on a lay-up from Shanice Blanks. The Bulldogs led 4-2 with 18:28 remaining. UGA went on an 11-2 run after back-to-back layups by Angel Robinson, until NCCU's Jori Nwachukwu jumper broke the scoring drought for the Lady Eagles, with 13:50 left in the first half.
LaVonna Hailey scored NCCU last points of the half with 7:34 on the clock; from there the Bulldogs went on a 14-0 run to end the first half.
The Bulldogs shot 43 percent from the field connecting on 18 of 41. Six of those were from behind the arch. NCCU shot a mere 15 percent, as no Lady Eagle attempted a free-throws or a three-pointers.
Scoring got better for NCCU. Blaire Houston and Nwachukwu provided a balance attack. Each had ten points for NCCU.
UGA control the rebounding advantage 48 to NCCU's 23. The Lady Eagles shot 27 percent for the whole game, while the Bulldogs shot 51 percent.
Next the Lady Eagles will continue their road trip to participate in the East Carolina University Thanksgiving Tournament. NCCU will take on the host ECU on Friday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m.
