NCCU CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TAKE SECOND PLACE AT GREENSBORO INVITATIONAL

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University men's and women's cross country teams finished second place at the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 27).

NCCU had three runners who completed the race within the top 10 finishes. NCCU competed against three Division I schools including Virginia Commonwealth University, Winston-Salem State University and North Carolina A&T State University.

The men finished in second place to Virginia Commonwealth, followed by North Carolina A&T in third place and Winston-Salem State in fourth.

Finishing in the top 10 for the Eagles was sophomore James Kukat in fifth place with a run time of 27 minutes, 22 seconds on the 8k Hagan Stone Park course.

Brandon Jones followed Kukat crossing the finish line in 13th place in 28:38. Eagle teammates following were junior Gerald Jones (33rd, 29:34), freshman Antonio Cowart (35th, 29:50), junior Michael Edwards (63rd, 31:42), freshman Jamal Davis (65th, 31:42), freshman Quantae Holliman (66th, 31:45) and sophomore Charles Lindsay (112th, 34:44).

The NCCU women also finished second place behind Virginia Commonwealth, followed by Winston-Salem State in third and North Carolina A&T in fourth.

Adding to the top 10 finishes were junior Desinia Johnson in fourth place in 19:38, followed by Ashley Cooke in 10th with a time of 20:28 on the 5k course.

Adding to the Lady Eagle finishes were freshmen Dreanna Wallace (15th, 20:37), junior Lakisha Gantt (31st, 21:39), junior Sheldonia Simmers (39th, 22:03), senior Ambria Alexander (74th, 24:04) and sophomore Karol Holt (139th, 27:52).

NCCU will be back in competition on Oct. 4 participating in the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic in Greensboro, N.C.

First race is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
