NCCU CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TAKE TOP HONORS IN THE NCCU EAGLE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University cross country teams welcomed five visiting teams to participate in the annual NCCU Eagle Cross Country Invitational at Forest Hills Park in Durham, N.C. The visiting teams included the North Carolina A&T Aggies, Mount Olive College Trojans, Barton College Bulldogs, Pfeiffer University Falcons and the Louisburg College Hurricanes.

The Eagles finished their season with two first place team finishes. The women were lead by junior Desinia Johnson who finished in first place on the 5K course in 19:51.19. Junior Ashley Cooke celebrated her birthday with a second place finish (20:06.64) for the Lady Eagles, as freshman Dreanna Wallace captured fourth place with a run time of 20:17.27.

Rounding out the top five for the Lady Eagles were Lakisha Gantt in eighth place (20:56.04) and Sheldonia Simmers in 10th (21:41.10).

The women's team finished in first place with a total of 25 points followed by NC A&T (55), Pfeiffer College (68), Barton College (96), and Mount Olive College (105).

James Kukat's first place run time of 25:54.10 helped lead the Eagles to a first place finish with a total team score of 38 points. Next to cross the line for NCCU on the 6K course was Brandon Jones in fourth place (25:44.07) followed by Gerald Jones in sixth finishing in 26:07.65.

Adding to the top five finishes for the Eagles were freshmen Jamar Jones (26:40.93) and Quantae Holliman (27:46.73).

North Carolina A&T finished second in the competition with a total score of 50 points, followed by Mount Olive College (76), Pfeiffer College (95), Barton College (NP) and Louisburg College (NP)
