CLEMSON, S.C. - The North Carolina Central University Eagles headed to Clemson S.C., as they participated in the Clemson Opener for their first appearance of Division I competition and raced away with three individual victories.
The NCCU men took three top places, winning in the 60m dash, the 200m dash and the 800m run. Christopher Davis set the bar in the 60m dash with a run time of 6.76 seconds, edging second place Trenton Guy of Clemson (6.79). NCCU teammate Maurice Gailey took the 200m dash in 21.78, also beating Guy of Clemson, who settled for second place (21.85). Carrying on the leader roll Brandon Jones claimed first place victory in the 800m run concluding with a time of 1:53.08. Also placing for the Eagles in the 800m was Rashaad Lee with a fourth place finish in 1:57.32.
Rounding out for the men were two relay teams which placed third in the 4x400 meter relay (3:20.23) and second in the distance medley (10:37.81).
In the women's mile run, Desinia Johnson paced the Lady Eagles with a time of 5:25.11 placing her in fifth for the Eagles, while also competing in the 3000-meter run, where she placed seventh with a time of 11:03.12.
On the field side, participating in the shot put, Latasha Jones and Jamie Brown finished fifth and sixth respectively, with distances of 12.59m (41-03.75) and 12.25m (40-02.25).
