NCCU Eagles Sunk by Early Runs from George Washington

ARLINGTON, Va. – North Carolina Central University found itself behind after an early surge from George Washington as the Colonials swept the weekend series with a 19-7 win in game three on Sunday, April 8 at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.

For the second time in the series, NCCU (20-14) scored first as Zach Michalski (Belews Creek, N.C.) lifted a two-run blast down the left-field line for his league-leading seventh home run of the year.  Similar to game one, GW (19-12) responded immediately as it scored nine runs on eight hits, and sent 14 men to the plate.  GW scored 15 runs in the first three frames on 14 hits.

Carter Williams (Brown Summit, N.C.) drove in Caleb Coyle (Wake Forest, N.C.) after the duo hit back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning to make the score 15-5.

GW was held quiet through the middle innings before a solo home run from Isaiah Pasteur (Westminster, Md.) in the bottom of the sixth.  GW added three more in the seventh as Steven Barmakian (Westfield, N.J.) and Mark Osis (West Chester, Pa.) picked up their third RBIs of the game.

NCCU had some firepower left in the bats for the ninth inning, as Williams doubled again and touched home after an RBI single from Evan Holland (Erial, N.J.).  Holland was the final man to touch the plate today after Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) collected a sacrifice fly.  Williams finished the game with two hits – both doubles – and two RBI.  Michalski also earned two RBI on two hits for the Eagles.

Pasteur was the standout batter for GW, as he was 4-for-5 with his home run and four RBI.  Barmakian also had a four-hit afternoon with three RBI.

NCCU returns home to the Durham Athletic Park for two midweek games against Campbell and Norfolk State on Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11, respectively.
