NCCU Eagles Held off by Campbell

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Campbell held the Eagles off for a 3-1 final score on Tuesday, April 10 at the Durham Athletic Park.

All of the runs were scored in the first four innings of the contest as Campbell (17-16) took a lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning before Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) knotted the game for NCCU (20-15) at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Campbell knocked back-to-back home runs in the top of the fourth from Zach Minnick (Logan, W.Va.) and Tyler Anshaw (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) to get the separation it needed for the rest of the game.  The Eagles were able to put runners in scoring position six times during the game including the bottom of the ninth inning, but Tyson Messer (Lillington, N.C.) was able to stop the rally for his fifth save of the year for the Camels.

The Eagles will continue the midweek schedule on Wednesday, April 11 at home against Norfolk State at the Durham Athletic Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.  Admission is free.
