DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University scored a run in each of the last three innings, including a game-tying home run by
Zach Michalski in the eighth and
Mitchell McCrary sliding in for the game-winning run on a wild pitch with one out in the ninth, as the Eagles rallied to beat NJIT 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Durham Athletic Park.
NCCU sophomore
Corey Joyce tallied three hits with a double and an RBI in the seventh frame. Michalski also drove in a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly.
Timmy Fischvogt and
Andrew Valichka contributed a pair of hits apiece for NCCU (4-2).
NJIT second baseman Tom Brady topped the Highlanders with three hits and an RBI.
Junior relief pitcher
Justice Sampson tossed three hitless innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory.
NCCU and NJIT (0-2) wrap up the three-game weekend series on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
