DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team won the top two doubles matches in a 5-1 home loss to Gardner-Webb University on Saturday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The victorious Lady Eagle pairings included junior Jamie Rogers with freshman Frida Cnossen and senior Lynsey Cover with sophomore Jasmine Gabriel.
The Runnin' Bulldogs won all five completed singles matches to rally for the win. Gardner-Webb (1-2 Overall) got into the win column for the first time this season.
NCCU earned the first point of the day with its strong play at doubles.
Rogers and Cnossen edged GWU's top duo of Sandra Bolstad and Daniela Naupari, 7-5. Covver and Gabriel tallied their 6-3 win over Mary Walker Mixon and Maljana Ristic. The doubles victories were the first one's for both partnerships.
Rogers had the best chance to win for the Lady Eagles in singles. She went the distance in a tight three-set loss in the No. 2 position in the lineup to GWU's Sarah Rieckmann by a score of 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3.
Bolstad, Naupari, Ristic and Catherine White all posted straight-set singles wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
NCCU (0-3) next hosts East Carolina University on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
