DURHAM, N.C. – A veteran Towson University women's tennis team secured a 7-0 non-conference dual match win over North Carolina Central University on Sunday at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
 
All eight Tigers in the lineup were upperclassmen as Towson moved over .500 on the season a 2-1.
 
Junior Jamie Rogers had the closest singles match for the Lady Eagles while teammate's sophomore Jasmine Gabriel and senior Lynsey Cover had the tightest doubles decision for the hosts.
 
NCCU slipped to 0-5 overall.
 
Junior No. 1 Nicole Shakhnazarova (6-1, 6-2) and classmate No. 3 Lucy Williams (6-0, 6-2) only lost five games in picking up Towson's first two singles points over NCCU freshman Frida Cnossen and sophomore Jasmine Gabriel, respectively.
 
Shakhnazarova and Williams are both reigning all-conference honorees for the Tigers in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
 
Junior Barbora Vasilkova, who led Towson in singles wins last season, picked up the visitor's next point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cover on Court 4. The Tigers clinched the team victory with matching 6-0, 6-2 conquests in the bottom two slots in the lineup.
 
Rogers was on the second court for nearly two and a half hours before narrowing losing to junior A.J. Gomer. Rogers won a dominating second-set tiebreaker, 7-2, to tie the match. With the team victory already in favor of Towson, the two juniors played a superset race to 10 points. Rogers led 5-4 before Gomer won six of the next eight serves to secure the win by a close 7-5, 6-7 (2), 10-7 margin.
 
The Tigers garnered the first team point after winning the first and third doubles matches by 6-2 and 6-1 scores. Gabriel and Cover gave the toughest fight in the middle bout, before falling 6-4 to Shakhnazarova and sophomore Yevgeniya Shusterman.
 
NCCU will conclude its five-match homestand by hosting Campbell University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Noon.
