DURHAM, N.C. – Senior
Lynsey Cover recorded a straight-set victory to highlight play for host North Carolina Central University in a 6-1 women's tennis dual match loss to East Carolina University at the NCCU Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
Cover picked up her triumph in the fourth slot in the Lady Eagles lineup. She won both sets by matching 6-4 scores over a fellow senior in Maria Storozheva for her first win of the season.
ECU (2-1 Overall) won the other five singles matches in straight sets and opened up the day with 6-3 and 6-4 wins in the top two doubles matches to earn the first team point.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week
Frida Cnossen had the toughest test of the day, facing the Pirates all-conference sophomore Celia Ruiz.
Ruiz won that top singles showdown 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Eagles had two weekly award winners in competition with junior
Jamie Rogers, who is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, playing at No. 3. She lost 6-3, 6-2.
NCCU next hosts Towson University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
