DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women’s tennis freshman Aissa Muamba has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2013 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the tennis court and in the classroom.
A native of Laval, Canada, a city located in southwestern Quebec, Muamba posted a 5-1 singles record during the month of April, helping the Lady Eagles advance to the semifinals of the MEAC Championship with a program record 14 team victories.
Also during the month of April, Muamba was crowned MEAC Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year and garnered First Team All-MEAC honors, boasting an impressive singles record of 19-3.
During her rookie campaign, Muamba won 13 consecutive singles matches from Feb. 15-March 17. Her only singles defeats came against opponents from Elon, Virginia and UNC-Wilmington. In September during the fall segment, she won three straight matches without dropping a set to win the flight B singles title at the Longwood University Fall Invitational.
For her remarkable on-court achievements, Muamba was chosen as the NCCU Team Most Valuable Player.
Muamba boasts a 3.885 grade point average as a biology major. During her first collegiate semester, she earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
