NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina Central University women’s tennis student-athletes Ekaterina Nekrasova and Aissa Muamba earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors with their performances in the Lady Eagles' three victories during the week of March 4-10, the conference announced on Tuesday, March 26.
Sophomore Severodivnsk, Russia native, Nekrasova, posted an undefeated week with three victories at the number two singles position and three wins in doubles action as the Lady Eagles topped Savannah State (7-0), UNC-Asheville (5-2) and Western Carolina (4-3).
Nekrasova defeated SSU’s Esmira Gheisary 6-0, 6-1, UNC-A’s Emily McNall 6-4, 6-2 and WCU’s Karen Jimenez 6-2, 6-1 in singles action and while paired Rebecca Wood in doubles competition the sophomore duo defeated Savannah State 8-2, UNC-Asheville, 8-5 and Western Carolina, 8-1.
Muamba, the Laval, Canada native earned her second Rookie of the Week honors while going undefeated on the week in singles play at the No. 3 spot. She claimed 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Savannah State, a 6-2, 6-0 victory over UNC-Asheville and a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win against Western Carolina’s Nicole Nielly to end the week. The freshman also earned an 8-1 doubles match victory against Savannah State in the No. 1 spot while teamed up with Olesya Palko.
