NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University women’s tennis student-athletes
Olesya Palko and
Aissa Muamba earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors with their performances in the Lady Eagles' two victories last week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Palko, a senior from Kyiv, Ukraine, was named Player of the Week after going undefeated in No. 1 singles and doubles play last week against Norfolk State and Methodist. In a conference match against NSU, Palko won 6-3, 6-2 over Andrea Macchiavello followed by a victory over Katherine Meindl from MU (6-1, 6-1).
Lady Eagles rookie Laval, Canada native, Muamba, finished 4-0 last week over the Norfolk State and Methodist. She won in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot against NSU’s Laura Gutierrez and captured the 6-0, 6-1 victory against MU’s Isabelle Graf.
Palko and Muamba were also No. 1 doubles partners during the week, winning 8-2 over Norfolk State and 8-2 against Methodist.
The Lady Eagles are 3-2 overall on the season and advanced to 1-0 in conference play after their victory over Norfolk State.
