NORFOLK, Va. – Shakiria Foster of North Carolina Central was selected MEAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week and teammate Jada Tiggett was chosen MEAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 27.

Foster and Tiggett won their respective awards for the second time this season. Tiggett was named defensive player of the week for the second straight week.

Both players helped lead the Eagles to a 2-0 record last week. Foster averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals while Tiggett averaged a double-double of 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in addition to 3.0 blocks, 1.0 steals and 2.5 assists.

Tiggett, a 6-2 sophomore guard-forward, displayed her versatility in a 71-56 home win over South Carolina State this past Saturday. She totaled 18 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal. The 13 rebounds are a career-high for her.

Foster, a 5-8 freshman guard, showcased her all-around ability in a 90-55 non-conference victory over Pfeiffer on the road. She finished with 17 points, five rebounds, four steals and a career-high six assists.

A Barnesville, Ga., native, Foster is third on the Eagles in scoring with an 11.6 average. She ranks seventh in the MEAC in three-point field goals per game (1.3).

Tiggett, from Winchester, Calif., averages 5.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and nearly 1 steal per game. She ranks second in the MEAC in blocks per game this season after leading the conference in blocks as a freshman.
