THREE EAGLES NAMED TO MEAC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

NCCU finished 2-2 in MEAC Baseball Championships

NORFOLK, VA. – Three student-athletes on the North Carolina Central University roster were named to the 2013 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) All-Tournament team as senior Luis Diaz (Geneva, N.Y.), redshirt sophomore Eric Kimber (Greensboro, N.C.), and junior Troy Marrow (Lutherville, Md.) all earned the honors based on their performances and voting by the local media and league SIDs the conference announced on Sunday.

Diaz finished the week 8-for-18 (.444) at-the-dish with three doubles, a triple, three runs scored, and six RBI that included a near cycle in the 12-6 win over Norfolk State on Friday morning with a triple, two doubles, a run scored, and four RBI.  In the 7-3 season-ending loss to Bethune-Cookman he went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.  Diaz ended his final season at NCCU batting .320 with 14 doubles, four triples, two home runs and a team-high 37 RBI.

Kimber was actually the top hitter for the Eagles during the MEAC Baseball Championships as the right fielder went 9-for-19 (.474) at-the-plate with a double, triple, two RBI, and five runs scored.  His 3-for-5 effort with a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored against Md. Eastern Shore was a big reason the maroon and gray advanced with the 10-4 victory.  Kimber’s average jumped to .310 on the year with his work over the past week.

Marrow finished the week third on the squad hitting .357 in four games (5-for-14), but topped the team with seven RBI that included his clutch three-run home ro left field that dropped the hammer on Norfolk State in the Eagles’ second straight elimination contest.  Marrow ended the year batting .267 and was second on the team with 36 RBI and was hit-by-a-pitch 28 times in his third season at NCCU which is No. 1 in the nation.

NCCU (27-29) ended the season just a game away from getting out of the loser’s bracket finishing the week 2-2 and bringing plenty of momentum to the program after the early round 5-4 loss against Norfolk State on Wednesday, May 15.
