JONES KNOCKS DOWN 1150 PINS FOR NCCU DURING KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL

Lady Eagles Earn Five Wins at Kutztown Invitational

READING, Pa. – North Carolina Central University junior bowler Laverne Jones gave a strong performance knocking down a total of 1150 pins while helping lead her team to five victories at the Kutztown Invitational this weekend, Jan. 27-29, in Reading, Pa.
 
Jones knocked down 1150 total pins during team competition, while maintaining a 191.7 average with a 225 game high.
 
The Kutztown Invitational three-day competition hosted by Kutztown University hosted a total of 27 other bowling programs from across the country: Maryland Eastern Shore, Fairleigh-Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Vanderbilt, Delaware, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Stephen F. Austin, New Jersey City, Norfolk State, Long Island, St. Francis-N.Y., Morgan State, Adelphi, Monmouth, Florida A&M, St. Francis-Pa., Bethune-Cookman, Southern University, Howard, St. Peters, Hampton, Penn State – Altoona, Cheyney, Medaille, Coppin State and NCCU.
 
After a difficult start on day one finishing with a 1-5 record during four-game bakers play, the Lady Eagles had their best performance on day two of competition during the standard team play. During team play NCCU finished with a 3-3 overall record defeating Coppin State (889-726), Bethune-Cookman (860-790) and Medaille (833-679). The Lady Eagles finished the tournament on Sunday 1-2 during best of 7 bakers play, giving them a 5-10 overall record.
 
Among the 263 participating student-athletes at the Kutztown Invitational, NCCU’s Jones and Toria Silver finished with overall averages in the top-75. Jones finished in 28th place while Silver ranked at 56.
 
The Lady Eagles return to the lanes Feb. 17, in Baltimore, Md., where they will compete at the Morgan State Collegiate Classic.
