North Carolina Central University Athletics

Thelma Fitzgerald Smith played basketball and earned a varsity letter at North Carolina College, where she pursued the secretarial science program. She worked for several years at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company before beginning 29½ years of employment - as secretary and administrative assistant - to three successive administrative heads of North Carolina College (North Carolina Central University at the time of her retirement in 1981).
