Roy "DD" Moore was named Most Valuable Player when he blocked two punts in the 1941 Peach Bowl Classic against Morris Brown College. He was also a specialist in the classic end around play, taking that play for a record-setting 66-yard touchdown run in 1940. His collegiate career was interrupted by World War II, but after his graduation in 1947 and completion of the M.S. degree in 1948, he became football and basketball coach at St. Augustine's College. At St. Augustine's he was named CIAA Football Coach of the Year in 1950 and CIAA Basketball Coach of the Year in 1953. He was football coach and athletic director at South Carolina State College from 1955 to 1960; among his players there was David "Deacon" Jones (All-Pro, NFL Hall of Fame). At St. Augustine's he had Coach Roland Miles, a Hall of Famer in the Canadian Football League. Dr. Moore earned a Ph.D. degree in exercise physiology from the University of Illinois.
