Robert “Pedro” Curington, a native of Durham, NC, scored 122 points in his career at NCCU which makes him the 11th leading scorer in the school’s history.
In 1963, he was selected for the Pittsburgh Courier All-American First Team as well as the All-CIAA First Team. Also during 1963, he was named the Most Valuable Player in the NCCU vs. North Carolina A&T Thanksgiving Classic. He was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Back for that season after breaking the school single-season scoring record with nine touchdowns for 54 points.
“Pedro” was an 8th round draft choice of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers in 1964, and was signed as a free agent by the Buffalo Bills for two years.
