Marian Taggart Alston was a member of the YWCA and the Commercial Club and earned her letter in basketball during her four years at North Carolina College, where she received her bachelor of science in commerce degree in 1940. She subsequently worked in Charlotte, and in Newport News, Va., where she retired after 20 years as an education secretary-bookkeeper with the Newport News School System.
