Julian “Pete” Martin inherited his nickname from his brother Aaron when he joined the North Carolina College Eagles in 1966. He made the All-CIAA second team as a defensive end in 1966. As a split end, part of the passing and receiving M&M duo of Mathews and Martin, he was named to the All-CIAA first teams in 1967 and 1969. In 1969, he was also named to the Pittsburgh Courier’s All-American Team as a split end.

His NCCU records – the named was changed before he graduated – include his 96-yard touchdown reception (thrown by Herman Mathews) against Johnson C. Smith in 1967, and his 90-point season scoring record in 1969. He had seven games in which he received passes for more that 100 yards.

He has been since 1973 a social consultant with Safeway Stores, Incorporated. He holds an honorary degree in gerontology from the University of the District of Columbia.
