    James A. Price, Sr., a native of Winston-Salem, NC, was an outstanding football player throughout his tenure at NCCU.  As a freshman, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Trophy and was named Outstanding Offensive Lineman.  During his junior and senior years, he was nominated for All-CIAA.  As a senior, he served as Co-Captain of the Football Team along with Bill Hayes.  He also made the Afro-American Newspaper All-American Lineman during his senior year.  He received the Outstanding Player Award in 1963.

    While he played football at NCCU, the team won CIAA Championships in 1961 and 1963.  The 1961 team was undefeated with a record of  7-0-2.  He was a three-and one-half-year starting tackle for NCCU.

    In 1965, James signed a free-agent contract to play professional football with the San Diego Chargers.  He served as Athletic Director at the North Carolina Advancement School in Winston-Salem, NC, from 1966-75.  He served as Health and Physical Education Teacher and Defensive Line Coach at Winston-Salem State University.  He coached under Cleo Wallace and Bill Hayes from 1975-1979.  During his tenure with Coach Hayes, the team won back-to-back CIAA Championships in 1978 and 1979.  He served as Recreational Center Supervisor from 1980 to 1995.
