Herman W. Hines hit the first home run for Coach E.C. "Pops" Turner's Renaissance Eagles, in the ninth inning of a game with Shaw University with one man on base. Those two runs accounted for the 6-5 victory. Hines coached the state championship baseball team for B.T. Washington High in 1957 for the Reidsville School System, from which he retired after 33 years of service.
