George Kenneth Lipscomb, Sr., was a four-year letterman in baseball, with a .300-plus batting average for his college career and a .499 in his freshman season. He subsequently played in the Negro Leagues, in Canada, and in Japan. He worked in the Durham County School System for 28 years, and also served as track coach and assistant basketball coach at NCCU.
