George H. Green played basketball at NCCU for legendary coaches John McLendon from 1950-52 and Floyd Brown from 1952-54.
He was a member of three championship teams, claiming CIAA visitation (regular-season) titles in 1951 and 1954, and winning the CIAA Tournament championship in 1950.
Green received a bachelor's degree in physical education and health from NCCU, and a master's degree and principal's certificate from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.
He was in high school athletics and administration for 30 years before retiring as principal of Northwest Middle School in the Winston-Salem/Forysth County School System in June 1988.
Green coached future Lakers great Happy Hairston and fellow NCCU Hall of Famer Albert Conner while serving as head basketball coach at Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., from 1956-70. He ended his coaching career with a record of 237-49 while winning state championships in 1957 and 1959, and nine district or conference championships. He also served as Athletic Director and an assistant coach for football, track and baseball while at Atkins.
