Garvin L. Stone joined the North Carolina Central University Eagles in 1969 and participated in the 1969 Boardwalk Bowl in Atlantic City.

For the three years from 1971 to 1973, he was team captain and starting quarterback, and in those three years played in only seven losing games.

In 1971, he ranked number two in passing yardage in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

In 1972, he was the MEAC’s number one passer, completing 86 of 176 attempts for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, with only eight interceptions. He was also the MEAC’s total offensive leader that year, and a member of the All-MEAC squad.

In 1973, he was the number two passer in small black colleges and participated in the Pelican Bowl held in Durham. He was a runner-up for All-MEAC honors in 1973.
