Eli Singleton identified 1984 Hall of Fame inductee Joe Williams as NCCU's greatest player. A contributing factor in that assessment, which few would dispute, may have been the fact that he and Williams teamed in doubles in 1962 (second-place, CIAA tournament) and in 1963 (Doubles Champions). Singleton served as tennis team captain in 1963.
