Troy Weaver was an outstanding member of Coach John B. McLendon’s 1950 basketball team at North Carolina College, a team which won both the visitation (regular season) and the tournament championship in the CIAA.

Weaver exploited his unmatched speed against all opponents. He was in on almost all of the dazzling combination scoring plays of that team, most of which were initiated by team captain Harold Hunter. Hunter and Weaver were named to the CIAA All-Tournament first team; Weaver was also named to the 1950 All-Conference Team. He was co-captain of the 1951 basketball team and was named to the CIAA’s All-Tournament second team in 1951. Weaver was also an NCC tennis player. He placed third in the CIAA Tennis Tournament in 1950.

Although his home was only 50 yards from North Carolina College’s front gate, Weaver asked for a room on campus where he became an Eagle in 1949. He was the first Durham athlete to make such a request, which permitted him to participate fully in the life of his team and his college.
