In the November 1934 edition of the Crisis magazine, William I. Gibson wrote a story about the improved calibre of new college football competitors. Listed among the standouts in black colleges was senior center and captain Deedom Alston.

Nearly 50 years later, the Rev. E. Deedom Alston retains an active interest in NCCU, his alma mater, and in athletics. After he moved to Kentucky to live, he was an active member of the Mid-Western Collegiate Officials Association until the organization dissolved in 1966.
