Curtis Watkins was a four-year basketball letterman, playing center from 1962 to 1966. His strong points were defense and his jumping ability.
As a high school student, he was a member of a West Badin High School basketball team which won Division 1A of the NCHSAA three times. He was selected for state All-Tournament honors twice during that period.
Watkins was also a member of North Carolina College’s first golf team.
