Charles White played quarterback and defensive half with the first football team to play after football was suspended for World War II, a team coached by Head Coach Herman H. Riddick and Assistant Coach L.T. Walker. In the spring of 1945, he was one of approximately ten members of the first track team under Coach Walker's tutelage. He tied in the CIAA championship that season in the 100-yard dash with Roscoe Lee Brown, now a Hollywood figure of renown. White never lost a 100-yard dash in his subsequent North Carolina College career.
