Alan Townsend is the son of the late coach Leo Townsend. He played on three CIAA Championship teams for the Eagles, playing second and third seed slots. He and his partner, Carlton Bell, also won their own CIAA doubles title. He was a member of the 1956 Eagle squad which went undefeated in conference play.
