DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's track and field teams won three events and broke two meet records at the annual Duke University Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
NCCU junior sprinter
Bethany White broke her own meet record in the women's 100-meter dash by posting a time of 11.42 seconds in the preliminaries to advance to the finals as the top qualifier. In the 100m finals, White edged Courtney Warner of East Carolina by five-one-hundredths-of-a-second to win the event in 11.60 seconds. White also won the 100m dash at the Raleigh Relays on March 30 with a career-best mark of 11.41 seconds.
Freshman
Bhrandi Crenshaw also broke a meet record by leaping a personal-best 12.69 meters (41' 7.75") to win the women's triple jump. This is Crenshaw's third triple jump victory during her rookie season.
NCCU freshman
Marvin Jones won the men's high jump with a height of 2.01m.
The men's 4x100m relay squad (
Isaac Roberts,
Deontae Williams,
Blake Hartsfield,
Gordon Lewis) achieved a new season-best time of 40.15 seconds, which would have been a meet record if not for Charlotte's winning time of 40.10. The Eagles settled for second place on a hotly contested event.
The women's 4x100m relay (
Akia Morris,
Bethany White,
Tyresha Alexander,
Erin Johnson) finished fifth with a time of 45.84 seconds.
Sophomore
Blake Hartsfield registered a time of 10.94 seconds in the men's 100m dash to finish as the runner-up.
Up next, NCCU will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays on April 26-28.
