GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior
Christian Obame won both the men's shot put and discus throw to account for two of NCCU's five event victories at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T on April 14-15.
Obame, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, recorded a career-best mark of 14.99 meters (49' 2.25") to top the field in the shot put, while also finishing first in the discus throw with a distance of 45.41m (149' 0").
Fellow senior and Raleigh native
Jaszmine Bowman won the women's discus throw for the second week in-a-row with a mark of 39.30m.
Another Raleigh senior
Timothy Edelen won the men's decathlon with 5,170 points, beating out runner-up and teammate
Dominick Lemonious (Detroit, Mich.) with 5,029 points.
Senior
Deandre James (Portsmouth, Va.) ran to victory in the men's 800m with a career-best time of 1:50.84.
Other top performers for NCCU were freshmen
Omega Smalls in the men's high jump (2nd, 2.00m) and
Deja Stevenson in the women's triple jump (3rd, 12.00m) and the long jump (4th, 5.57m).
The NCCU women's and men's track & field teams return to action next week at the Duke Invitational on April 21-22 in Durham.
