Eagles Torch Aggies from Distance

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University etched another line into the record books as the Eagles nailed 16 three-pointers to tie the most made in a game in the Division-I era during an 82-59 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Patrick Cole (Newark, N.J.) made half of those treys as he knocked down a career-high eight on his way to a game-high 27 points.  Those eight three-pointers is tied for the third most in a single game.

NCCU (14-6, 5-1 MEAC) also made 16 treys against Barber-Scotia on Nov. 26, 2013.  The Eagles also recorded their second-largest margin of victory over NC A&T (1-19, 0-7 MEAC) in the Division-I era of the rivalry series with a 23-point spread.

NCCU started the game hot with a 10-0 run, but NC A&T responded with a 9-0 run of their own to set up a very tense passage of play in the first half.  The score was tied a couple of times, but the Eagles were able to pull away and end the first half where they started, with a 10-point lead at 39-29.

Both teams traded buckets in the beginning of the second half, but after the nine minute mark the Eagles were able to open the game up and pull away to their largest lead of the game at 22 points, leading 74-52 with three minutes to go.

In the game against Howard, three Eagles made it into double-digits, and today four Eagles eclipsed 10 points.  Cole was joined by Dajuan Graf (Charlotte, N.C.) who earned his second double-double in his career with 11 points and 10 assists.  Pablo Rivas (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds along with Rashaun Madison (Norfolk, Va.) who had 12 points with two steals.

Kyle Benton (Long Beach, Calif.) put up another great inside effort with nine points and nine rebounds, along with frontcourt partner Del'vin Dickerson (Houston, Texas) who had eight points and six rebounds.

Davaris McGowens (Taylors, S.C.) also reached the 20-point barrier as he led NC A&T with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Eagles will spend the next three games away from home, starting with a trip to Delaware State on Monday, Jan. 30 to close the month.
