NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's track and field teams combined for 10 event victories during the two-day Captains Invitational indoor meet hosted by Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21). The NCCU women captured six wins, while the men finished first in four events.
The Lady Eagles swept the top three spots in the women's 60-meter dash with sophomore
Bethany White winning the race in 7.80 seconds, followed by junior
Markiara Staten (7.91) and sophomore
Miaysha Bryant (8.12), who was also the fastest college student-athlete in the 200m dash with a time of 26.09.
Sophomore
Kiana Seabrook triumphed in the women's 400m dash with a time of 58.31 seconds, and was the top college performer in the long jump with a mark of 5.50 meters. Freshman
Deja Stevenson was victorious on the track and the field, winning the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.06 seconds and the triple jump with a distance of 11.60 meters. Stevenson also placed third in the long jump (5.43m). Freshman
Nateja Hale won the women's 200m hurdles in 30.71 seconds.

Lovasia Thomas ran to victory in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 4:11.46.
Senior
Jonathan Williams won the men's 60m dash in 6.87 seconds, while fellow senior
Carlton Edwards, Jr. beat the field in the men's 400m dash with a time of 51.29 seconds. The Eagles took the top two positions in the men's high jump, topped by freshman Omega Smalls with a height of 2.00 meters and followed by sophomore
Armond Shaw at 1.95 meters.

Deandre James, triumphed with a time of 3:31.29.
Seniors
Dominick Lemonious and
Timothy Edelen became the first Eagles to qualify for the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the men's heptathlon event. Lemonious placed third with 3,733 points, winning the high jump (1.76m), 60m hurdles (8.43), 1,000m run (2:58.78) and 60m dash (7.21) along the way. Edelen finished fourth with 3,673 points, earning an event victory in the shot put (12.41m).
NCCU continues the indoor track & field season on Jan. 27-28 at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
