NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month: Morgan Jones

Women’s Basketball Junior Scores Career-High 25 Points in January Victory

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's basketball junior Morgan Jones has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2016 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.

A native of Stockbridge, Georgia, Jones scored in double figures in all six games during the first month of 2016, averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists. She poured in a career-high 25 points in a one-point win over Norfolk State on Jan. 16, including a steal in the last minute that led to her making two free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the victory. Jones also scored a team-high 17 points in a triumph against Furman on Jan. 4, as the Lady Eagles went 2-1 at home in January.

Jones boasts a 3.94 grade point average after five semesters at NCCU. The criminal justice major was named to the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team in 2015 and was recently voted to the Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

She is a member of both Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society (for criminal justice majors) and the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ).

After graduation from NCCU and the conclusion of her basketball career, Jones plans to put her criminal justice degree to work in the government, possibly the FBI or CIA.

She has her sights set on an internship this summer with either the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) or the Durham Police Department.
