DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University sophomore forward
Deja McCain flirted with a double-double by supplying team-high totals of 13 points and eight rebounds in a 64-54 non-conference women's basketball loss to visiting Wofford College on Saturday afternoon inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
The Terriers won each quarter by one possession in squeaking out the 10-point triumph. Wofford moved over .500 at 4-3 overall with its first road win (1-3). NCCU was unable to secure its second straight home win in falling to 1-5 overall.
McCain matched her career-high 13-point total by sinking 6 of 13 field goals (46.2%) and her only free throw try on a three-point play. Her eight rebounds was a new best mark for the Charlotte, North Carolina, product.

Dominique Adams followed with 10 points and six rebounds. Senior guard
Morgan Jones bucketed eight points while sophomore guard
Rodneysha Martin and freshman guard
Jada Blow both chipped in six points. Jones, Blow and senior guard
Monique Whaley-Briggs all distributed four assists.
A trio of Terriers scored a dozen points, including senior forward Grayson Pinholster, junior guard Amoshia Blakeney and sophomore guard Chloe Wanink.
Wofford dominated the glass with a 49-38 rebounding advantage and Pinholster completed a double-double with 14 rebounds. Wanink filled up the box score with eight rebound and four assists.
A three-pointer by Blow on NCCU's last possession of the first quarter had the Lady Eagles only trailing 9-7 after 10 minutes. The maroon and gray then scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to take its only lead at 11-9. After Morton drilled a jumper in the paint, Whaley-Briggs made a layup to complete the go-ahead run.
The Terriers scored the next six points to regain the lead for good. Wofford led for the final 27:16 despite NCCU pulling within one possession five more times. Wofford led 26-21 at halftime and 43-34 at the end of the third quarter before taking its largest lead of 15 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Eagles cut the deficit to single digits three times in the final two minutes, but the Terriers answered each time to stymie the comeback effort.
NCCU took 18 more shots than Wofford, but the Terriers were more accurate making 24 of 55 (43.6%) attempts compared to 22 of 73 (30.1%).
The Lady Eagles next fly out to West Lafayette, Indiana, to play at Purdue University on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m.
