NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: ASHLEY McCARTHY

Volleyball Senior Works as Student Athletic Trainer; Plans to Attend Physical Therapy School

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's volleyball senior Ashley McCarthy has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for August 2014 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in her major.
 
A native of Elmont, N.Y., McCarthy posted 22 kills, 15 digs and six blocks in three matches during the NCCU Invitational in the month of August, including 15 kills, four digs and four blocks against Valparaiso. For her efforts, she earned a spot on the NCCU Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
McCarthy tops NCCU with 43 blocks and ranks fifth in the MEAC in blocks per set (0.81). She is also fourth on the team with 68 kills.
 
When not on the volleyball hardwood, the athletic training major works as a student athletic trainer with women's basketball and track & field. She is planning to attend physical therapy school after graduation from NCCU.
