DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University return specialist Adrian Wilkins was recognized as the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Return Specialist of the Year on Monday, Feb. 10 during halftime of the NCCU-Florida A&M men's basketball home game.
Wilkins scored five total return touchdowns in 2013 -- three on kickoff returns and two on punt returns. He averaged 30.3 yards per kickoff return and 13.4 yards per punt return.
According to the CFPA's scientific criteria, Wilkins finished the 2013 season with the strongest return specialist performance since the inception of the CFPA FCS Awards program.
CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith was on hand to present Wilkins the 2013 CFPA FCS Elite Kickoff Returner Award. Smith and Wilkins were joined by NCCU football head coach Jerry Mack, special teams coordinator Mike Medenhall, and members of the No. 1 kickoff return unit in the NCAA Division I-FCS ranks.
