DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University men’s basketball junior forward Stanton Kidd has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2013 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Kidd topped the Eagles during the month of January with 110 points (15.7 per game), 52 rebounds (7.4 per game) and five blocked shots, as the team posted a perfect 7-0 record. He also contributed 10 steals and eight assists, while shooting 61.3 percent from the field (46 of 75).
Kidd earned his second MEAC Player of the Week award on Jan. 14 after recording his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds versus Virginia-Lynchburg, followed by a 21-point performance at Florida A&M.
The junior transfer tallied his fifth 20-point effort of the season on Jan. 14 by netting 23 points against Bethune-Cookman.
Among MEAC statistical leaders for the season, Kidd ranks third in scoring (14.7 points per game), sixth in rebounding (7.0 per game) and fourth in field goal percentage (57.5 percent).
Kidd has also notched solid statistics in the classroom, boasting a 3.05 grade point average as a psychology major.
