DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football senior Lamar Scruggs has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2013 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the gridiron and in the classroom.

A native of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Scruggs collected nine receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown in three games during the month of September. Those statistics include five catches for 64 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown, against Saint Augustine's on Sept. 7. He also caught three passes for 43 yards at Charlotte on Sept. 14.

The University of South Carolina transfer is currently tied as the team leader in receptions with 21 catches for 256 yards. Against Morgan State on Oct. 19, Scruggs grabbed seven passes for 92 yards.

An honor society student, Scruggs boasts a 3.31 overall grade point average majoring in hospitality and tourism. He is on track to graduate in May 2014.
