DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University men’s basketball junior guard
Jeremy Ingram has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2012 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Ingram averaged 20.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in five games as a starter during the month of December. The 6-3 guard also collected four blocked shots and a team-high nine steals to help lead the Eagles to a win over conference rival North Carolina A&T and a road victory over Utah Valley.
Ingram blistered the nets in December, connecting on 16 of 34 three-point shots, a 47-percent success rate from long distance. He also converted 74 percent from the free-throw line (20-27).
The East Mecklenburg High School graduate opened the month by shooting 6-for-11 from the field, including 4 of 5 three-pointers, to spark the Eagles in a road win against North Carolina A&T. Three days later, he recorded 18 points, a season-high seven rebounds, two blocked shots, an assist and a steal at Eastern Kentucky.
On Dec. 19, Ingram started a streak of four 20-point scoring performances with 23 points, keyed by five three-pointers, at Drake. He then equaled a career-high with 27 points during a road win at Utah Valley, and closed out the month with 20 points, three assists and four steals in a near upset of Marquette.
While Ingram was racking up statistics on the hardwood, the recreational sport management major was also wrapping up the fall semester with a 3.357 grade point average.
Ingram also made his impact felt in the community, as he joined his NCCU teammates to deliver gifts and holiday cheer to the children at the Durham Rescue Mission.
