DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women’s volleyball sophomore
Dayana Arrufat Rondon has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for August 2012 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Arrufat recorded 62 kills, 20 digs, seven service aces and three blocks in six matches during the month of August. Her average of 3.10 kills per set during that time ranked second on the squad.
On Aug. 26, she led NCCU to a 3-0 sweep of Hampton University with a match-high 15 kills, along with four digs, two blocks and a service ace.
As a freshman in 2011, Arrufat topped the Eagles with 275 kills and 25 service aces, appearing in all of the team’s 31 matches, including 29 as a starter.
Arrufat’s contributions to the volleyball program extend beyond the hardwood and into the classroom. A chemistry major, she boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
