DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University cheerleader
Erin Verdell has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for July 2012 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the sideline.
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Verdell spent four years raising school spirit in support of NCCU student-athletes. NCCU cheerleading coach LuAnn Edmonds-Harris said Verdell has been an integral part of each squad in which she has participated.
“Erin was instrumental in providing stability for the varsity cheerleaders with her cooperation, dedication, commitment and unselfishness,” said Edmonds-Harris. “She rarely missed practice and never a game during her four years as a cheerleader. She is a stellar academic student and has carried herself in a most professional manner while at the university.”
Verdell is a member of The Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the NCCU Criminal Justice Club and the Student Affairs Judicial Board. She has also been recognized as a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society.
A regular on the Dean’s List during her NCCU academic career with an overall grade point average of 3.315, Verdell graduated magna cum laude in May with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
She participated in the Summer Bridge Program at the NCCU School of Law and gained acceptance into the Law School program for the fall.
