NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: JACK WAISSEN

Double-Major with 3.88 GPA also Double-Athlete in Tennis and Golf

DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University men’s tennis and golf senior Jack Waissen has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2012 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the court, on the course and in the classroom.

A native of Basingstoke, England, Waissen posted a 7-6 record at the No. 1 singles position for the tennis team, including four consecutive match victories from Feb. 15-March 12. In his final two seasons, he achieved a record of 17-13 at the top singles spot. He is also a three-time recipient of the tennis team’s most valuable player award (2012, 2011, 2009).

Although Waissen’s main sport at NCCU is tennis, he joined the golf team this year just in case his services were needed. He made his college debut at the PGA Collegiate Minority Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on May 11-13.

Waissen’s versatility also extends into the classroom, where he is a double-major in criminal justice and political science. He has accomplished a 3.880 grade point average and is on track to graduate in December.
