GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior
Nealie Whitt (Roxboro, N.C.) won the men’s discus throw conference championship in record-breaking fashion Thursday during day one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Whitt’s toss of 52.05 meters (170-feet, 9-inches) was not only an individual season-best, but it broke the MEAC Championship record.
NCCU junior
Willie Calvin (Greenville, Miss.) garnered all-conference merit by placing third in the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.11m (6’ 11”).
Those performances provided the NCCU men’s squad with 16 points, which positions the Eagles in second place in the team standings after day one of three.
On the women’s side, NCCU sophomores
Sararesa Hudson (Burgaw, N.C.) and
Delesha Conquest (Newark, Del.) advanced to the finals of the 400m hurdles with times of 1:00.09 and 1:01.76, respectively. Junior
Ashley McCoy (Wilmington, N.C.) also moved on to the finals in the 200m dash with a qualifying mark of 23.98.
