NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE SCORES INTERNSHIP WITH NIKE

Rising Senior Joseph Hutchinson Starts Internship June 4 in Oregon


DURHAM, N.C.- North Carolina Central University rising senior Joseph Hutchinson heard about a Nike internship while searching Nike’s website then received an email from NCCU Director of Athletics, Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree informing him about this opportunity. After applying in December and going through two interviews, a phone interview mid-January and a video interview mid-February, Hutchinson was selected to intern in this 12-week program in Oregon starting June 4.

The Nike Internship Program by many accounts is considered a Top-15 internship in the United States by any company. Hutchinson will be a Global Football & Nike Sportswear Product Line Intern. His job will be to support, manage and execute the daily product creation work needed to deliver the requested planned product.

“Joseph is a class act and he epitomizes the true meaning of a student-athlete as shown by the way he balances his academics and athletics at a high level,” said Anthony Bennett, NCCU Director of Student-Athlete Support Services. “One of Joseph’s future goals is to own his own apparel company and this opportunity will definitely provide him with a competitive edge as he gains valuable experience in the industry.”

The Nike Internship Program is a highly competitive program providing interns with the opportunity to gain the best hands-on experience in virtually every area within Nike. Hutchinson will be provided with real world opportunities ranging from product design, product development, finance, sports marketing, logistics, facility management and human resources.

Hutchinson, a business management major with a minor in apparel design, said, “I feel like this internship is a blessing and I’m so excited to be granted this opportunity to represent my family, NCCU and the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) this summer.”
